HOW TO SOFTEN, PEEL & SLIVER ALMONDS
日本語
Drain the almonds in a colander and rinse them with cold water to cool them. You'll notice that the skins will be slightly shriveled.
Use your fingers; press an almond between your thumb and index finger and the peel comes right off. You can squeeze them from one hand into another to keep them from "launching" too far. |
Storage
You can spread out the slivered almonds on a baking sheet to dry out or put them into the oven, heated at 150 degrees Celsius, for three minutes, to dry and toast them. Use as desired.
Store any unused slivers in an airtight container, in a cool, dark place, retaining their crunchy taste and flavor by preventing exposure to moisture.

How to soften almonds
There is a pleasure in eating crunchy almonds, but not all agree with the sentiment. Elderly and those who do not have strong teeth and gum unwillingly avoid eating almonds. There is an easy solution for people in that predicament. You can use the above mentioned method to soften the almonds or simply soak them in fresh water over night. Soak as much as you want to eat over a day. You can’t keep them long because after a day or two tiny white molds grow on them. See The Recipe For Almond Stew Back To Home Page |
