Mahi Sorkh Kardeh "Pan Fried Fish"

  • Cooking Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

  • Mackerel, 1 piece, 300 grams “or any fish of your choice”
  • Flour “All Purpose”, 1/3 cup
  • Dried Fenugreek Leaves, 1 tablespoon
  • Salt, 1/3 teaspoon
  • Black Pepper, 1/4 teaspoon
  • Turmeric, 1/3 teaspoon
  • Fresh Lemon, 1
  • Cooking Oil

Fish sprinkled with salt, pepper and fenugreek all over

Preparation:

  • Pat the fish dry with a paper towel
  • Sprinkle salt, pepper and fenugreek all over the fish
  • On a large flat plate mix the flour and turmeric, spread and set the fish on the plate. Turn it over to coat the other side with flour

Directions:

  • Heat enough cooking oil in a non-stick skillet on medium-high heat and add the floured fish. 
  • Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side or until the fish take on a golden brown hue. 
  • Place the cooked fish on a paper towel before serving to get rid of excess oil. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the fish. 

It is customary to serve Fried Fish with Sabzi Polow on the Iranian New Year's day Nowruz.
